This is a three-day Specialty course consisting of lecture, demonstration, and practicum for Brainspotting practitioners who have completed a Phase One training (either in-person or live, on-line training). This course will explain what happens in the body during Brainspotting on a tissue level, a cellular level and biochemical level.
Attendees will learn about:
· The anatomy and physiology of the fascial system – especially relative to the freeze response
· The neurology of pain and chronic pain within the brain and the body
· Bodyspotting and several new frame set-ups to assist with processing physical and emotional pain and trauma
· Movement Integration to support and integrate changes which may occur in both the brain and body – for ANY of your Brainspotting clients
Learning Objectives
Attendants will be able to:
- explain the anatomy of the fascial system from embryonic origins
- explain the function and physiology of the fascial system
- explain the theory of the fascial system relative to the freeze response and relative to holding trauma in the body
- demonstrate comprehension of the neurology of pain within the brain and body
- differentiate between pain and chronic pain in the brain and body
- demonstrate comprehension of Central Sensitization, including the origins of treatment and how Brainspotting will improve the treatment of Central Sensitization
- analyze current treatment approaches for several types of chronic pain syndromes
- analyze why adding Brainspotting will significantly increase the rate of success of current treatment approaches for chronic pain syndromes
- integrate the theory, practice, and techniques of addressing physical issues through Brainspotting
- demonstrate skill, comprehension and application of BodySpotting frames, Sweeps, Doublespotting frames, Integration frame and the mastery of Movement Integration through a lab experience with demo and group practice.
Meet Your Presenters
SERENE RENE’ CALKINS, P.T. is a Physical Therapist, a Brainspotting Consultant, a CranioSacral Therapist, and a Pilates Rehabilitation Practitioner- and the Owner of Art and Science Physical Therapy. Since 1991 she has enjoyed the honor of specializing in the treatment of patients with chronically involved issues. Serene’s practical- yet empathetic and open-hearted clinical approach is deeply rooted in a combination of art and science. This is the bedrock of her whole-person clinical approach and to her teaching style. She is the Founding President of the US Brainspotting Association and Vice President of Rocky Mountain Brainspotting Institute.

MARY JANE O’ROURKE, LCSW, LMT has worked in health care since 1999 with over 24 years of experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist and 17 years as a social worker. She is a Brainspotting Consultant, who finds great joy in supporting therapists around Brainspotting, clinical practice and issues related to burnout. She operates with a warm heart and a gentle presence. Her passion lies in empowering people to aquire the necessary tools to make positive life changes.
