Serene’s book “The Art and Science of Healing: Resolving Chronic Physical and Emotional Pain and Trauma” is expected to be published in 2025.
This book explores the neurobiology of pain and of chronic pain. It is not about diet, exercise, positive visualization, prayer, or crystals – although each may have use for different people. This book is about the neurology of pain in the body and in the brain, why pain is so vital, how it ramps up – out of control – and how to bring it back down again to a helpful, important, and non-damaging place in your life. In other words, how to experience pain the way others do.
Beyond understanding how and why pain and chronic pain exists, this book finally explores no-nonsense solutions to being free from the limbo so many people in chronic pain experience: stuck between the pain which happened in the past, yet, somehow, inexplicably, has never left and the fear of doing “something” which will cause it to become worse.
This limbo between Past Pain and Future Fear is universal – regardless of the origin of our pain – because chronic pain is tethered within the neurology of the brain and of the body. The solutions, also, exist in both the brain and in the body.
Following a 35-year career of working with patients with chronically involved issues, the author brought this wealth of knowledge to the field of Brainspotting (an advanced brain/body technique for healing physical and emotional trauma). Now, combining these two treasures, she explains the art and the science of healing from such complex issues as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, multiple chemical sensitivity, chronic pain, and phantom limb pain.
Serene and Pie Frey, Psy.D. will be co-authoring “The Principles of Brainspotting: A Compass for Everyday Life”, which is also expected to be published in 2025.
